Research title:Characterisation of Potassium Two-Pore (K2P) Domain Channels Using Nanodisc Technology
Characterisation of membrane proteins outside of their native environment has been notoriously difficult in the past. A detergent-free approach using amphipathic styrene maleic acid copolymers has recently been developed allowing solubilisation of proteins from the membrane, in the form of “nanodiscs.”
My research aims to observe K2Ps in the faux native environment provided by the nanodisc to determine lipid-protein/drug-protein interactions and characterising K2Ps interactions with various agonists/antagonists.
