Athena SWAN Half day event succsess
Alison Edwards and Sarah Corlett have worked with Athena SWAN leads at University of Kent to organise a half-day event which was held on Wednesday 31st January 2018 on the Medway campus. The event focused on the themes of unconscious bias and positive action. The event was concluded by a talk by Prof David Smith (University of York) which focused on diversity issues (e.g. LGBT+ individuals in STEM) and the way his department (which holds an Athena SWAN gold award) has addressed diversity issues. The afternoon was very enlightening and will help us continue the school’s own equality, diversity and inclusivity action plan as part of our continued commitment to Athena SWAN. Most notably, the Athena SWAN silver application recently submitted by the school is inclusive of both professional staff (i.e. technical and admin) as well as academic staff.
