  • Programme structure
  • Entry criteria

The Foundation Degree in Medicines Management (FdMM) is a three year part time programme for pharmacy technicians working in hospital, community or primary care pharmacy. It has a practical, work-based focus enabling the technician to become a confident, competent member of the healthcare team who can contribute to the delivery of the medicines management agenda, whilst developing transferable skills to facilitate personal development.

Teaching

The FdMM is delivered by a combination of taught study days, distance learning and work-based learning. Students will continue to work in their role as a technician within their department. The programme includes 30 study days of which at least 7 days will be taught in conjunction with the NHS South East Medicines Management Education and Development team (SEMMED).

Assessment

Assessment is through assignments, work-based projects, multiple choice examination papers, portfolio assessments and objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs).

Careers

The FdMM offers a realistic career progression for newly qualified (NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services) pharmacy technicians working in the community, in hospital, in primary care or prison pharmacy.

Students who successfully complete the Fd in Medicines Management will be eligible to transfer to the second year of a number of BSc programmes including the BSc in Applied Professional Studies.
