The Foundation Degree programme is a 3-year programme that provides work-based solutions for workforce development and training.
Developed with, and for employers, the programme incorporates interactive e-learning, on- and off-site academic support, short residential blocks, work-based learning (including short and extended negotiated work-based projects) and accredits in-house training.
The Applied Bioscience Technology Foundation Degree provides the ideal training plan for employers looking to have their own provision accredited, while at the same time bringing in essential new learning.
This framework can support individuals wanting to progress their career within SME and global organisations, covering relevant roles in the life science supply chain from research through development and into manufacturing.
The Applied Bioscience Technology Foundation Degree may be incorporated into a Life Sciences Higher Level Apprenticeship.
The majority of your learning will occur in your workplace guided by self-directed learning, supported by study learning sets. You will be allocated a practice tutor who will help you plan your learning in the workplace and an academic tutor to support you throughout the course.
The framework is fully flexible allowing delivery to be adapted to suit the needs of the organisation and the learner. Key aspects include:
- e-learning platform containing interactive materials to support flexible learning opportunities that work with the business cycle.
- Integrated learner support and coaching to enhance the capacity of the organisation to support learning and development.
- Work-based projects to ensure that learning is applied, embedded and supports the needs of the organisation.
- Opportunities to build on and enhance existing in-house training.
Formative assessments include: progress tests, reports, portfolio entries, short essays, analysis of case studies, written assignments, practical tests, and case study analysis. Progress and attainment of learning outcomes is determined by summative assessments including: Multiple Choice Questions, reports including the company-based project, portfolio entries, and case studies.
