World Leading Research at Medway School of Pharmacy

Seven members of academic staff at the school were returned through the University of Kent in the recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008) with the results announced in December 2008. The University of Kent scored its best ever performance in this RAE and has been ranked in the top 30 higher education institutions in the UK, in terms of research quality, for the first time (http://www.kent.ac.uk/research/rae/2008/index.html).
Drs Luigi Calzolai, Bernhard Gibbs and Simon Scott were returned with Biosciences at Kent to Unit of Assessment (UoA) 14 (Biological Sciences) and the neuropharmacology group (Professor Alistair Mathie and Drs Alison Bratt, Stephen Kelley and Gurprit Lall) were returned with KIMHS at Kent to UoA 09 (Psychiatry, Neuroscience and Clinical Psychology).
Kent’s Biological Sciences submission had 35% of its quality profile rated as world leading or internationally excellent, whilst Kent’s Psychiatry, Neuroscience and Clinical Psychology submission was ranked in the UK’s top 20 with 40% of its research outputs rated as world leading or internationally excellent and the work of recently appointed neuropharmacology staff was particularly noted.
