Former Medway student is Tesco’s Pre-registration student of the year
October 2009
Anthony Samson, who completed his MPharm degree with the Medway School of Pharmacy in 2008, has been named as Tesco’s pre-registration student of the year. Twenty-five year old Anthony has been working at the Tesco’s instore pharmacy in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey for the last year, under the supervision of pharmacist David Entwistle. All pharmacy graduates have to complete this pre-reg year before they undertake an exam to qualify as a pharmacist and become a Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
Anthony beat off competition from the other 84 Tesco’s pre-regs to claim the trophy. The winner was the student who showed constant progression in their learning over the course of the year, had achieved the highest standards in their work and was considered to have a ‘can-do’ and friendly approach to customers, patients and staff. The winner was chosen by representatives from the Tesco pharmacy head office team and from sponsors of the trophy, Reckitt Benckiser.
The trophy is engraved with Anthony’s name. He also gets a replica trophy to keep, as well as £200 prize money.
Since qualifying as a pharmacist, Anthony is still working at Tesco’s Pharmacy in Sheerness. He’s just been enrolled onto the Tesco internal management training scheme, which can lead to advancement into pharmacy and store management. His aim is to become a pharmacy manager and then specialise in helping patients with cardiovascular conditions.
Anthony said ‘I would like to thank all the staff at the Medway School of Pharmacy for their help & guidance during the 4 years of my degree and also to say a big thank you to David Entwistle, my tutor, and Khilna Shah from Tesco’s head office, both of whom guided and supported me through my pre-reg year’.
