Susmita’s project focuses on apoptosis in lower eukaryotes. Apoptosis is a process of cell suicide - a mechanism also referred as programmed cell death. This process involves a series of biochemical events which leads to the characteristic cell morphology. Her research mainly focuses on Giardia, believed to be one of the earliest evolved eukaryotes.
