Pharmacy is a very demanding profession and Pharmacists are among the major players in the health care arena.

These are some interesting areas that need further investigation:

  • Pharmacy Practice in Europe: the application of different dispensing methods and different ways to process prescription, from the paper based, to the more evolved electronic once, in order to generate electronic PMR that can be even share among different players.
  • Development and application of new models in community pharmacy: moving from a static model, drug centric, where pharmacists are mainly involved in checking, to a dynamic model, patient centric, where pharmacists have a proactive role, dealing with clinical issues such as ADR, drug administration, injections, vaccination, drug information and management/financial issues too.
  • Creation and development of a platform in order to share information in real time among different countries: a new and crucial role for the profession is coming up. There is even more need to share information about patients in real time in order to provide better and tailored service. Information communication technology (ICT) and Pharmacists are a very powerful combination and they could make a real contribution to people’s lives.
  • Creation of a standardized European PMR (Patient Medication Record): there is the need to create a standardized PMR to facilitate people movement around Europe; at the same time to share information and reduce medication errors.
